October 2020 – AAC West have lobbied the President of the European Parliament, all Irish MEPs, the President of the European Commission and the European Equality Commissioner, the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights along with our own Ministers for Health, Foreign Affairs, Equality and Justice, against the introduction of legislation in Poland making abortion illegal on the grounds of Fatal Foetal Abnormality
November 2020 – AAC West issued a press release in support of the protests in Poland against the introduction of legislation making abortion illegal on the grounds of Fatal Foetal Abnormality
November 2020 – AAC West sent a letter of support to Dziewuchy Dziewuchom, a Polish pro-choice organisation based in Ireland.
February 2020, AAC West submitted a petition with over 10,000 signatures to the Minister for Health Simon Harris demanding free contraception in Ireland
2019 Actions
We saw there was a gap in terms of access to information on abortion since the change of legislation. We developed our own easy to read guide on how to get an abortion in Ireland and what to expect.
We had our leaflet translated into Irish, Polish, French, German, Spanish, French, Portuguese and Araic.
We developed a large print version and an audio version of the leaflet for those who have lower literacy skills or are visually impaired.
May 2019: We launched our leaflet in the Mick Lally Theatre in Galway. We had a GP from START Doctors and Siobhan Mac Sweeney (most famouly known for her role in Derry Girls) as speakers on the night.
2018 Actions
Formed September 2018 after the Repeal of the Eighth Amendment. Developed a constitution for the collective.
We held a public meeting in Galway titled 'What's After Repeal'. We had speakers from Midwives for Choice, and University of Galway Sociology and Politics Department, Dr Amie Lajoie.
October 2018 Submitted our Position Paper on the Health (Regulation for the Termination of Pregnancy) Act to the government demanding changes to the proposed Bill and lobbying for a woman-centered appraoch to abortion care.
